Has America ever launched an amphibious assault that failed? were the Marines lives which were given

the WW2 pacific theater, i mean many Marine lives, was it worth it for a couple of airfields? sometimes we have to figure out if the price was worth the cost

Has America ever launched an amphibious assault that failed? were the Marines lives which were given during...say yes

My understanding is that every airfield captured in the Pacific was one step closer to mainland Japan. By getting within striking distance of the mainland, the US was able to inflict damage on the Japanese war building machine. Ultimately, those airfields allowed for the atomic bombs to be dropped, bring the war to a close WITHOUT an invasion of the Japanese homeland. Estimates of causalities for such an invasion have been put at one MILLION. In terms of lives saved, yes, it was worth it.

To the best of my knowledge no Marine landing has failed although some could have been better planned. But taking the beaches were made.

You have to remember that the aircraft at this time were unable to fly long distances and return. Therefore, it was necessary for us to take many of these islands as stepping stones for the main battle with Japan and provide airfields that were close enough that damaged aircraft could land and as we moved closer and our aircraft's ranges improved we were able to apply more force in the bombing of Japan.

I don't know about the cost of life, but as far as the Marine Corps is concerned they Will do anything to save their fellow Marines. And sometimes this means that more Marines are often killed than the Marine that is saved. It's a Marine thing.
amphibious assault at Anzio failed to complete its operatinal task. no Marines involved there, though.

Using the Rommel's popular taunt "drive them back into the sea", no Allied amphibious landing suffered that decisive defeat but the 1943 recapture of dunkirk attempt of British/Canadian forces.
In WW2 there was a joint operation with the Brits that was a precursor to Normandy , We needed a port to offload our supplies and troops so we tried to take one ,Unfortunately our intel was bad and the port was very heavily defended and our attempt failed and many many live were snuffed out , I believe the Brits took the brunt of the losses , We went back to the drawing board and Operation Overlord ( D-Day ) was created.

Concrete breakwaters were built and old ships were sunk in place to provide harbors in place at Normandy once the beaches were taken at great cost in lives ,

Japan was another story because the japanese had built airfields and bases all over the islands and literally had to be driven back to their home island and then A-bombed into submission ! Was the cost in lives worth it you asked ? NO !

But if we had not of fought those battles the world would be quite different now and the poorer for it !
